Three Decades of Training Dogs Means Chris Banke Knows His Stuff

Christopher BankeOne of the key reasons why Chris Banke is considered one of the best dog trainers in the business probably comes from his longevity. He has well over 30 years of dog training experience in his background. He may seem too young for that, but it is fascinating to consider that he started training dogs when he was a fresh-faced kid of just 15. The startling thing about it is that he was just so good, even at the beginning. Another amazing factor has been his almost total dedication to his profession and his strong activism.

Chris Banke is well-known for his activism within the dog training community, which manifests itself in the form of memberships in numerous training organizations. He actually co-founded three very prominent organizations: the Schaeferhund Schutzhund Club, for whom he has also served as vice president, and The Pinebarrens Schutshund Club and The Mid-Island Schutzhund Club, for whom he also served as training director for a time.

The Life and Times of Christopher Banke

Christopher Banke

There are many reasons why Christopher Banke is highly regarded as one of the best dog trainers in the country. However, no single reason is more relevant than the fact that he discovered dog training as a passion at the tender age of 15 and he has been working since then to become the best. That means he has been doing this for about three decades and he seems to be considered among the best anywhere. He looks young, but he has put in the time to know everything about his profession.

Chris Banke’s dedication to the profession he loves seems to be endless. He is a lot more than a dog trainer and a business owner; Christopher Banke is a strong activist for his profession. Chris has memberships in many dog training organizations that have a lot to do to keep the training profession in good shape. For example, he is a founding member and current Vice President for Schaeferhund Schutzhund Club, an organization for which he has served for quite some time. He also was a co-founder of both the Pinebarrens Schutshund Club and The Mid-Island Schutzhund Club and he has served as training director for both at one time or another.

Christopher Banke, Canine Trainer for Everyone

There are probably a number of reasons why Christopher Banke is considered one of the best dog trainers in the business. One of them is most certainly his dog training experience, which already runs to more than three decades, overall. While some may think he’s too young for that to be the case, it should be pointed out that his dedication to canine training started for him at the tender age of 15.

Of course, experience is only part of the story, as he is highly regarded for his activism within the dog training community, as well as his active membership in quite a few organizations that support trainers. For example, as a founding member of Schaeferhund Schutzhund Club, he also serves as that organization’s Vice President. Chris also co-founded The Pinebarrens Schutshund Club and The Mid-Island Schutzhund Club, and he has served as a training director at both for a time.

However, most of his reputation comes out of his experience, which is vast and varied. As noted, at 15, Chris Banke discovered his love of dog training and then founded the Algemeiner Schutzhund Club. He was sure this would be his career even then, so he wanted to be the best anywhere. He was able to work under the guidance of an experienced trainer early on, who encouraged him to concentrate on German Shepherds primarily. Most of what he was taught improved his level of skill to the point that he started his own dog training business when he was just 19. “Chris Banke Protection Dog Trainer” is still alive and kicking so many years later at its facility in northern Vermont.

The Christopher Banke Dog Training Guide

Christopher Banke recognized his passion for dog training very early, when he was just a teen and he started training his Doberman, Dana. In fact, he established the Algemeiner Schutzhund Club when he was only 15 because he was certain that he had found his true calling. While there, an older, more experienced trainer named Margarete Iaquinto, caused him to direct his passion for training to German Shepherds. It was good that she did, since he worked to become one of the best trainers in the United States. That distinction, which he earned through hard work, brought him a lot of dogs to train, which in turn improved his skills to an even greater degree. He became so good that he opened his own dog training business, “Chris Banke Protection Dog Trainer” before he had even turned 20.

For the next 30 years of his distinguished career, Christopher Banke has, of course, coached and trained a great many dogs, but he has also accomplished a lot in other ways. For example, he became the first American to compete in the RSV2000 World Championship with his dog, Iriac vd Maineiche in the IPO 3- handler-owner trained (HOT) category. Then, in 2003, Christopher’s dog “Dino von der Maineiche”, received the 2nd highest Schutzhund/IPO 3 score in US history, reaching a trial score of 297. Dino also featured prominently in another great accomplishment in 2008, when he played the guard dog in the Oscar-nominated film, “Frozen River,” which was directed by Courtney Hunt.

After gaining so much experience and training many dogs to the IPO/Schutzund III level and doing a lot of coaching and helper work for a great many competitive handlers, Christopher Banke started his own breeding kennel. His training business is still going strong in northern Vermont to this day.
